Our Story

Bible Expert was started by Julien Vermet, who founded Liftoff on 25 May 2023 in Saint-Malo, France. The idea came from a simple frustration: every Bible app he tried was either too minimal, too cluttered with denominational defaults, or hidden behind expensive subscriptions for features that should be free. He wanted something different — an app that feels thoughtful and modern, yet stays completely focused on what matters: helping you read, understand, and live the Bible every day, in whatever language and tradition you bring to it.

Bible Expert launched in June 2023, weeks after Liftoff was registered. What started as a solo side project quickly became a daily companion for hundreds of thousands of readers worldwide. Today, with over 500,000 downloads and a 4.5/5 rating on the App Store and Google Play, the app is still independently built and self-funded — no investors, no ads, no data sales. The same intention drives every release: quiet, purposeful tools for your faith.

The Founder

Julien Vermet is the founder of Liftoff and the person behind every line of code, every product decision, and every editorial article you read on this site. He has spent more than a decade building software products — from consumer apps to backend infrastructure — and started Bible Expert because no existing app served the kind of careful, multilingual, denomination-aware reader he wanted to be himself.

Editorial Standards

Every article on the Bible Expert blog is written and edited by Julien with a non-denominational stance: research is grounded in Catholic, Protestant, and Orthodox sources, and original-language references (Greek, Hebrew) are cited when they meaningfully change the reading. Our Approach

Bible Expert is deliberately non-denominational. We do not promote any particular theological tradition. You will find translations from Protestant, Catholic and Orthodox traditions — the 66-book Protestant canon, the 73-book Catholic Deuterocanon, and Eastern Orthodox editions. Our AI Bible Chat is designed to present perspectives, not prescribe answers. We believe the Bible speaks for itself; our role is simply to remove every barrier between you and the text.
